Barn cats on a recognized farm are exempt from the license fee but must be registered and vaccinated.

Service dogs are exempt from the license fee but must be registered and vaccinated.

All dogs and outdoor cats must also be vaccinated in the city of Bathurst. Only indoor cats are exempt, however, all animals must be licensed.

Licenses are good for the calender year only and expire December 31st of the given year. Vaccines are good for a year from the actual date of administration. Licences for cats and dogs in the City of Bathurst can now only be purchased at the shelter or from your Animal Control Officer. You can no longer purchase your tags at City Hall. We are open Tuesday through to Saturday from 11 am to 4 pm. If you have no means of transportation you can call us to make arrangements for the Animal Control Officer to drop off your tag to your home. Please have proof of spay/neuter and vaccines available at all times as we cannot sell you a license without them. The shelter has access to a debit machine, and now the Animal Control Officer can also accept debit transactions on the road using a wireless debit machine. You are also able to call the shelter directly to purchase your tags over the phone with Visa or M/C and we can mail or deliver your tags to you by the next business day. If you have any other questions please feel free to call us at 548-8537 or fax 548-5811.
